چکیده

This paper describes modern, non-invasive data acquisition methods of underground utility detection. Basic parameters, methods and their influence on the acquisition speed and data quality are defined. This data can be used for development of complex Geographic Information Systems. The aim of this paper is to show data extraction from the hyperbolic reflection on the radargram. These data are used for pipe radius and soil moisture content estimation. Influence of determined dielectric permittivity was discussed in terms of pipe radius estimation. Also, soil characteristics influence on the velocity of propagation was analyzed. For complete analysis new application was developed. This application includes hyperbola fitting algorythm for the raw data and additional calculation of variables mentioned above from determinated hyperbolic function. The analysis was applied to a number of real radar data scans of relevant underground utilities.

Efficient Large-scale Underground Utility Mapping Using a New Multi-channel Ground-penetrating Imaging Radar System

Ground-penetrating imaging radar (“GPiR”) is a new technology that combines standard GPR (Ground-Penetrating Radar) with accurate positioning and advanced signal processing to create three dimensional (3D) images of the shallow subsurface. These images can reveal soil conditions and buried infrastructure—such as utility lines and conduits—down to depths of about 2 to 3 m (in typical organic so...

Application of Gpr in Urban Utility Detection Ranging and Characterization

Keeping track of underground utilities through maps or real physical signs is essential for their maintenance and quick repairs, whenever required, without causing much obstruction to day to day life. It is not uncommon that maps are misplaced or real physical signs are destroyed. In such situations, digging and excavation becomes unavoidable during repair works. Ground penetrating radar (GPR) ...

Detecting oil contamination by Ground Penetrating Radar around an oil storage facility in Dhanbad, Jharkhand, India

the subsoil and groundwater were suspected to be polluted by leakage from underground tanks around the oil storage facility in Dhanbad, Jharkhand, India. to delineate the seepage zone, integrated geophysical methods comprising Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) and 2D electrical Resistivity Imaging (eRI) methods were employed over the suspected zone and in the close vicinity. the studies were condu...

Novel inverse methods in land mine imaging

The imaging of buried land mines continues to present significant signal-processing challenges in the development of inverse methods for the detection of plastic mines buried in soil. To address this difficult problem, recent mathematical advances in the development of the Elliptic Systems Method are used to generate images of the buried land mines. The proposed approach adapts earlier methods,...

Time-Reversal Ground-Penetrating Radar: Range Estimation With Cramér-Rao Lower Bounds

In this paper, first, a new range-estimation technique using time reversal (TR) for ground-penetrating-radar (GPR) applications is presented. The estimator is referred to as the TR/GPR range estimator. The motivation for this paper comes from the need of accurately estimating the location of underground objects such as landmines or unexploded ordinance for safe clearance. Second, the Cramér–Rao...
